I am delighted to share that Professor Martyn C. Lucas, of the Department of Biosciences, Durham University, in the UK, has agreed to take on the responsibility of Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Fisheries (JFish). Professor Lucas is an internationally renowned researcher in aquatic animal ecology. With more than 11,000 citations, an h-index of over 50, and an i10-index of over 125, Professor Lucas is a recognized world leader. He is the author of over 150 refereed publications, including the famous textbook “Migration of Freshwater Fishes,” published in 2001 by Blackwell, which has been cited over 1,500 times. Two of his recent publications, in Fish and Fisheries (Silva et al. 2018) and in Nature (Belletti et al. 2020), have, in combination, been cited more than 900 times.

His research interests include fisheries ecology and management; spatial ecology and migration of fishes; the impacts of dams and other river barriers on fishes and how to mitigate these; conservation biology of aquatic animals; aquatic restoration ecology; the biology of introduced and invasive aquatic animals; and environmental effects and pollution responses on aquatic organisms.

BdFISH and I are very grateful to Professor Lucas for agreeing to extend his kind support to JFish. We believe that his research expertise and leadership experience will bring the journal to a new era of recognition in aquatic sciences.
